We are consolidating our RSVP guidelines here to make life easier for everyone (including us). Hopefully all your questions are answered here; if not, feel free to ask them in the comments or Facebook, or NaNoMail!
1) Why do I have to RSVP for events?
Unfortunately, rooms have fire capacity guidelines and your intrepid MLs are awesome, but lamentably still subject to fire code. We also need to give our food-serving venues a head’s-up as to how many will descend upon them.
2) What if I forget/don’t/can’t RSVP?
You may show up without RSVPing, but we reserve the right to deny you entry, or ask you to leave, if the room fills with people who have RSVPd and you have not. If you’re not sure you can make it, RSVP anyway!
3) What if I RSVP the day of?
This makes it harder for your MLs and the venues. Please try to RSVP at least 24 hours in advance. If you don’t, we will treat you like you didn’t RSVP. We hate to have to inflict deadlines, but we’d rather maintain good relationships with our venues.
4) What if I’m bringing a guest? Please RSVP for them too (add a + 1 to your RSVP)
5) Okay, you’ve convinced me. How do I RSVP?
You may RSVP yes to the event notification in the NaNoWriMo forum.
6) What if I want to arrive early?
Please do not arrive any earlier than 15 minutes prior to an event. Your MLs need time to setup the room and the venues need time to set up the tables and get us all clean forks. We work hard to foster positive relationships with the venues, so we appreciate your understanding on this matter.
7) Do I have to stay for the whole time?
All our events are come when you can, leave when you want, so if you wish to attend, but can’t make the whole window, please do come on out, BUT (and I bet you know where this is going) please RSVP even if you can only drop by.
8) Do I have to buy food?
No. We do not require it. However, remember that we are a large group and our restaurant venues add a 10-15 per cent gratuity to each bill (this is very standard). The gratuity is non-negotiable
